Relay for Life!

Bartow Relay for Life

April 20th and 21st

Thunderbird District once again has a team participating in the Bartow Relay for Life walk taking place on April 20th and 21st.  And once again I am asking the Scouts for Help.

  1. We need team members that would be willing to come out and have fun and walk that evening.  As a team we have committed to have one member out walking the track all night.  In addition we have some fun laps we can participate in:  The Dude Looks like a Lady lap, a conga line lap, a musical chairs lap.  Last year there was even a Lady Gaga lap that had to be seen to be believed.   This is a good opportunity to get a Belt Loop or Merit Badge for Hiking and we truly had a ton of fun.
  2. This year’s theme is “Everyday Heroes” and I want to know who your everyday hero is.  It is your mom, dad, grandparent, sibling, teacher, scoutmaster, den leader, friend, who it is and why?  Below is a form that I would like for every scouter to complete (adult and youth alike) that says who their everyday hero is and why.  Fill in your FIRST NAME ONLY and your unit # on the bottom.  I am then going to decorate our space with these and have a wall of fame with all of our everyday hero’s.  You can draw a picture, take a photo, or just put it into words.   I have also attached an example so you can get the idea of what I am looking for.
  3. We are going to award a camping backpack to one lucky winner.  We will be giving out chances with a $1 donation.  The drawing will take place on Saturday Morning the 21st at 6am before the end of the walk.  Winner does not need to be present.  They will be contacted and the prize will be delivered to them.  – This is where I need your help.  Can you donate a scouting/camping item for our backpack?  The backpack, a small 2 person tent, bedroll, compass, canteen, pocket knife, field book, rain poncho, flint, beef jerky, trail mix, MRE, book of knots and some rope.   Anything you can think of really that would make a great camping/scouting supply.  If you can donate anything please bring it to the next Roundtable so we can get this put together in time to collect donations.

Thank you for all your support.  As of today we have over $190 for our team’s total.    And I know we will be able to raise more.  We have donations of drinks to sell the evening of the walk – we are putting together the back pack to get donations and we may also be selling survival bracelets.   If you have any other ideas please let me know!
